Crushing your New Year resolutions or failing terribly? Instead of giving up entirely, this is a great time to regroup, refocus and re-energize. Here are a few tips to get you back on track.
Review your resolutions –Are they unrealistic or achievable? This is a great time to modify your goals for the year if you are finding them too easy or too challenging.
No regrets - Forget the all or nothing attitude. Celebrate little victories and learn from your setbacks. Make smaller goals that will help you reach your resolution. If your goal is to run a marathon, perhaps start with a half-marathon. Remember that fitness is a journey, not a destination.
Goal or dream? A goal is only a dream if you don’t have a plan. If you want to improve your fitness, you need to make it a priority. Schedule your workouts into your calendar and stick to them.
Play the long game – Make lifestyle changes, not a temporary band-aid. Forget yo-yo diets, deprivation and forbidden foods. Instead, focus on the good foods and fueling your body for the day.
Celebrate don’t compare - Remember to focus on you and not to compare yourself to others. Nobody is the same. You decide what’s important to you and maintain balance in your life. Be present in your daily routine and practice gratitude.
Give yourself a carrot – Plan a reward for your hard work. Perhaps you want to improve your golf game. Plan a weekend golf trip that you can look forward to once you’ve worked on your swing.
Hire a coach – Sometimes we all need some help to get to the next level. Find a coach whether online or in person who can help you reach your goals.
Find your tribe – If you are finding it lonely or challenging to achieve your goals, find a challenge group whether at the gym or online. Together you can motivate yourselves and keep each other accountable.
Be bold, brave and dauntless this year! Wishing you the very best in your adventures for 2018!
